Chocolate Crinkle Cookies are a Holiday Classic
These irresistibly fudgy chocolate crinkle cookies with their signature crackly tops are just what you need to sweeten your holidays!
With baking season in full swing, I’ve been making a lot of unique cookie recipes lately – lots of thumbprints with fun flavors and different kinds of sandwich cookies (like the chocolate mint).
But sometimes you have to go back to the basics. To the Christmas traditions. To the classics you’ve never tried.
Which brings me to the baking world’s best-kept secret: the chocolate crinkle cookie. This isn’t just a cookie; it’s a culinary wonder that deserves its own fan club.
Chocolate crinkle cookies are like the James Bond of the cookie jar – smooth, suave, and dressed to impress with their signature powdered sugar ‘tuxedo.’
One bite, and you’ll understand why these cookies are legends in the Christmas cookie universe, and the reason why ‘just one more’ becomes a test of willpower.
The reason they are called crinkle cookies likes in their “crinkly” tops. After the sugar goes on top, it makes this recipe look like you put in way more effort than you truly did.
Are you ready to embark on a baking adventure that ends with you being the hero of every cookie exchange? These crinkles are more than just treats; they’re a chocolate love affair in cookie form.

Here’s what you’re going to need for these chocolate crinkle cookies.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
Tools
- Bowl
- Spoon
- Baking sheet
- Parchment
- Smaller bowl or plate for the powdered sugar
Having slightly wet hands while rolling the cookie dough into balls will help prevent the cookie dough from sticking to your hands.
The cookies may not look fully done by 10 minutes, but they will be done.
These last in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
You can also freeze them in an airtight container for up to two months. When you bring them out of the freezer, let them rise to room temperature naturally as opposed to microwaving.
