This Little Dumpling Mold Makes Perfect Dumplings in Seconds
Folding dumplings by hand takes a lot of practice, but this dumpling mold makes it look easy. In this short video, a small plastic press turns a round wrapper and a spoon of filling into a neat, pleated dumpling in just a few seconds.
How the Dumpling Mold Works
The tool has two parts. One side holds the wrapper, and the other side is a little cup that pushes the filling down into the center. You place a wrapper on the mold, add a scoop of meat and vegetable filling, then press. The edges fold up around the filling and pinch closed, so every dumpling comes out the same size and shape.
It is a great idea when you are making a big batch. Look at the tray in the video. Dozens of dumplings sit in neat rows, and they all look like they were made by an expert.
Why Home Cooks Love This Trick
Hand pleating is beautiful, but it is slow, and the first few always come out messy. A dumpling mold takes the guesswork out of it. Kids can help, beginners can keep up, and you still get that classic pleated look on the plate.
It also helps you use the right amount of filling. Too much filling makes wrappers tear, and too little leaves them flat. The cup measures it for you every time.
Tips for the Best Results
- Keep your wrappers covered with a damp towel so they stay soft.
- Use a filling that is moist but not wet, like ground pork with cabbage and green onion.
- Dust the mold with a little flour if the dough starts to stick.
- Freeze extra dumplings on a tray first, then move them to a bag.
You can steam, boil or pan fry them, just like any other jiaozi. Serve with soy sauce, black vinegar and a little chili oil.
